Steel Table India is an Android app with two modes. Steel Mode has the IS 808:2021 section catalogue, a dimensioned Inspect panel, a Section Optimizer, an IS 800 design calculator, a compare tray and a Quantity Estimator. Bolt Mode has bolts, washers and nuts with their own compare and optimizer. It works offline, takes your own rate per kg, and is free on Google Play.
1. Two modes, one app
Steel Mode is for structural sections. Bolt Mode is for fasteners. One tap on the toggle at the top switches between them at any time, and the screen changes theme so you always know which one you are in.
2. Browse or search
The catalogue is organised by category: beams and joists, columns and heavy sections, channels, equal angles, unequal angles, pipes, hollow tubes, plates, flats and bars, and rebar. You can browse a category or type a designation such as MB 300, ISMC 150 or ISA 7575 into the search bar. The catalogue holds over a thousand sections and keeps growing with updates.
3. Inspect any section
Tap a section to open the Inspect panel. It shows a dimensioned sketch with the centre of gravity marked, then dimensions and weight, unit cost, design capacity, and inertia, gyration and moduli. A symbol button swaps labels such as R1 for the real value in millimetres, which is handy when the letters have slipped your mind. The guide to reading a section table explains every symbol. Go full screen to see only the sketch with every dimension labelled.
4. Scan, then set your own size
Swipe the nav strip to move to the next or previous section without closing the panel, which makes comparing neighbours quick. For flats and round bars the app does not fix you to one size. Enter your own width and thickness, or diameter, and every property recalculates live from the geometry.
5. Section Optimizer
If you know the moment of inertia you need, give it to the optimizer with the axis. It ranks the lightest IS sections that meet it, with the efficiency per unit mass. The guide to picking the lightest section works through an example.
6. Design calculator to IS 800
Choose a column or a beam and the design calculator checks it against IS 800: capacity, deflection and interaction, with pass or fail and the numbers shown. The Design Capacity card in the Inspect panel gives bending, shear and tension capacity for every section. The beam capacity guide shows how those numbers are worked.
7. Cost on every card, and the estimator
Every section card shows unit cost. Tag sections into the compare tray and read mass, cost, dimensions and properties side by side, with up to four at a time. The Quantity Estimator turns a simple member list into total weight and total project cost, on one screen.
8. Your rate, your unit
Set your own rate in rupees per kg once, and choose metres or feet. Every figure in the app updates. A single category can have its own rate with the ₹ button on its card, since a beam and a rebar bar are rarely priced the same. The weight and cost guide shows the arithmetic behind the numbers.
9. Bolt Mode
Bolt Mode brings the same depth to fasteners: hex bolts, HSFG bolts, washers and nuts, each with a sketch, dimensions and its IS number. Compare two bolts side by side, or enter your shear and tension and let the optimizer find the smallest bolt that carries them. The bolt capacity guide explains the check it runs.
10. On site or at your desk
The whole dataset lives on your phone, so nothing needs a signal. There is no account to create. When you need the numbers elsewhere, export a whole category as CSV for Excel or STAAD, as JSON for apps, or as Markdown for reports, or copy a single section's data. Light and dark themes are there for a bright office or a dark site cabin.
What it is, and what it is not
Steel Table India is a fast reference tool. Every value is transcribed from the published IS 808:2021 tables, and transcription can contain errors. Verify anything critical against the official publication before it goes into a design, a drawing or an order.
Questions people ask
Is Steel Table India free?
Yes. It is free to use on Android, with no subscription.
Does Steel Table India work offline?
Yes. The full dataset is stored on the phone, so you can look up a section on site with no signal.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is nothing to sign in to. Open it and look things up.
Which standards does it use?
IS 808:2021 for sections, IS 800 for design checks, IS 1161 for pipes, IS 4923 for hollow tubes, IS 1786 for rebar, and the Indian fastener standards in Bolt Mode.
Can I export the data?
Yes. Export a whole category as CSV for Excel or STAAD, JSON for apps, or Markdown for reports, or copy the data of a single section.
Can I use my own steel rate?
Yes. Set your rate in rupees per kg once, choose metres or feet, and every cost in the app follows. A category can have its own rate.

Steel Table India is free on Google Play. Open it, search a section, and see the sketch, mass, cost and capacity.
For reference, not for sign-off. Section and bolt values quoted here are as shown in Steel Table India, transcribed from the published IS 808:2021 tables and worked to IS 800:2007 methods. Transcription can contain errors, and these worked examples make simplifying assumptions stated in the text. Check critical values against the official Bureau of Indian Standards publications and have designs checked by a qualified engineer. IS 808 and IS 800 are published by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
