Steel Table USA is a free Android app by Trishunya Infotech, a solo developer studio. It holds over 1,800 AISC steel sections with design capacity, an optimizer, compare and cost per foot, plus Bolt Mode with RCSC joint tables and a bolt group calculator. There is no account and no plan to choose. It works offline, and ads keep it free.
Why it exists
Finding one section weight used to mean flipping through a heavy handbook or pinching and zooming a giant PDF to hunt for a single row. Steel Table USA puts that look-up in your pocket. Type W12x26 and the card shows weight per foot, section modulus and cost within a second. Tap Inspect and the whole property table opens, in inches or metric.
The app is built by a solo developer, for the people who build: engineers, detailers, fabricators and estimators. The goal is to keep it free.
What is inside
- Over 1,800 sections in twelve categories, from wide flange and channels to bars, plate and sheet. See the app tour for each part.
- Inspect with a scaled sketch, dimensions, weight, cost, inertia, radius of gyration and elastic and plastic moduli.
- Design capacity for grades such as A36 and A992, with the assumptions listed on the card.
- Optimizer to find the lightest shape for a required moment of inertia.
- Compare for up to four shapes side by side.
- Cost per foot at your own price per pound, or a different price for each category.
- Export of any list to CSV, JSON or Markdown.
- Bolt Mode with RCSC tables for hole sizes, pretension and slip resistance, and a bolt group calculator for shear, tension, slip-critical and bearing and tearout.
- Dark mode, large text and a choice of pounds or kilograms.
Where the numbers come from
Rolled shapes come from the AISC Shapes Database, version 16.0, which is consistent with the 16th edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual. Both the inch-pound and metric values for rolled shapes are AISC's own columns. The source is printed at the top of every Inspect panel. The Design Capacity card follows AISC 360 and states its assumptions: compact section, laterally supported, no lateral-torsional buckling check. Bolt Mode follows the 2020 RCSC Specification, and every table is labeled with its number.
Bars, flats, plate and sheet are computed from your own dimensions at 7850 kg per cubic metre. See the guides to steel weight and cost per foot and the US standards for structural steel for more on the data behind it.
How it stays free
There is no account to create and no plan to choose. Ads keep the app running, and watching one short video buys you a day without ads. That is the whole deal.
Where it stops
It is a reference tool, not a stamped design. Design capacity covers one shape with stated assumptions. It does not check lateral-torsional buckling, connections, load combinations or code-specific rules. Bolt calculations are for planning. Verify anything that matters against the AISC Manual, the RCSC Specification and your own engineer's judgment before you build. Steel Table USA is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by AISC or RCSC.

Questions people ask
Is Steel Table USA really free?
Yes. There is no account to create and no subscription. Ads support it, and one short video gives you a day without ads.
Who makes Steel Table USA?
Trishunya Infotech, a solo Android app studio.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. The steel data is stored in the app, so it works with a weak signal or none.
Is it endorsed by AISC?
No. It is an independent app that uses data from the AISC Shapes Database and tables from the RCSC Specification. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by AISC or RCSC.
Can I rely on the design capacity for a real project?
Treat it as a reference figure. It states its assumptions and is for planning. Verify before you build, and have designs checked by a licensed engineer.
How do I report a mistake?
Write to the developer from the menu in the app.

For reference, not for sign-off. Shape and bolt values quoted here are as shown in Steel Table USA, which takes rolled shape data from the AISC Shapes Database v16.0 and bolt tables from the RCSC Specification (2020), and the worked examples follow AISC 360 methods under the simplifying assumptions stated in the text. Transcription can contain errors. Check critical values against the AISC Steel Construction Manual and the RCSC Specification, and have designs checked by a licensed engineer. The AISC Specification, Manual and Shapes Database are published by the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the RCSC Specification by the Research Council on Structural Connections.
